This is the album cover I was talking about in my earlier post. You can clearly see his collection of analog synthesisers which is a vast amount of equipment, even by todays standards.

The advent of transistors enabled the progression away from bulky and less reliable tube based systems and enabled technological development by people like Robert Moog. His Moog synthesisers (one of which you can see clearly in the above picture) gained popularity in the mid to late sixties, carried to an even larger audience by the success of various bands utilising the systems. None more so than Kraftwerk with their definitive forth record Autobarn which showcased the possibilities of music creation with synth production in a 22 minute odyssey of synthetic sonic exploration. They used Minimoog, an ARP Odyssey, an EMS Synthi AKS and a collection of self made istruments and devices.
