GRACE JONES - so far so Goude
I was in the Marais at Le Perle on Thursday night and I couldn’t help but be drawn to this image of Grace Jones that was on the wall. Sometimes its different when you see things mounted, they can appear to have more weight or impact.
Taken during her love affair with Jean-Paul Goude at a photo shoot in 1978 she used it 8 years later to ‘grace’ the cover of her greatest hits collective, Island Life. Released in 1986 the record was put out on her own label: Island Life.
It is interesting to note that this image has been engineered by Goude to appear that Grace is performing the arabesque when in fact, she is not. The main point of his work was that she could not perform the task and he was ‘creating a credible illusion’ (in the days pre photoshop).
